Reviews
I saw this film at the cinema when it was first released, having read and loved the book. Recently I visited the beautiful church at Radnage (on a walk detailed in Ten Adventurous Walks in the Chilterns by Raymond Hugh) that was used in the film and this prompted me to order the DVD. I especially wanted to order it from Quince Tree Press (rather than any larger retailer) as the publisher was founded by J. L. Carr and is still run by members of his family. I am going to watch the film with the friend who joined me on the pilgrimage walk. I am so grateful to QTP for sending the DVD (which contains both Blu-ray and standard discs) with efficiency and a personal touch. Of course the church was clearly 'dressed' for the film and only a few fragments of wall paintings remain at Radnage but I would still recommend a visit for its stunning, peaceful location and celluloid connections to Carr's Oxgodby.
Keenly recommended- it’s an enthralling film. And if it sends us to read, or re-read, Mr Carr’s great book what could be better?
In addition to the extras these discs have significantly better sound than the previously available DVD, and the option of subtitles.
And thanks for the very speedy dispatch and delivery.
