"Probably the most brilliant work of satire written in America. And maybe one of the greatest in all of world literature." - Jason Zweig, Wall Street Journal

In addition to JL Carr's dictionaries in the Pocket Book series, this abridged lexicon by early 20th century American journalist Ambrose Bierce contains 16 pages of common words with new satirical and humorous definitions.

"Barber; A savage whose laceration of your cheek is unobserved in the superior torment of his conversation"

Pocket-sized at 13 x 9.5cm (5 x 3.5" in old money) and comprising 16 pages with a firm card cover. This little volume is just one in the series of Carr's Pocket Books; they hover between a greeting and a present and make a lasting alternative to a birthday card. In cold bedrooms, only one hand need suffer exposure. A distinguished novelist recommends them for reading in the bath and an ambassador claims they can be palmed from the cuff during tedious speeches or profitless sermons.

Many thanks for the prompt delivery of the books ordered

The small books were for a friend's birthday. She was regretting that she no longer saw them in bookshops so it's good to know that they're still available from you. I think I have all of them and, certainly, all Carr's novels. I'm sure that A Month in the Country will be read in decades' time and the others are not bad! Many thanks.
